Maya Crocodile Priest Ceramic Mask

A highly respected ancient Maya is portrayed in this intense mask by Oscar Rodolfo Mendoza. He wears earrings and a headdress crowned by a spotted crocodile; glyphs adorn his forehead and cheeks. Modern artisans utilize the same materials and techniques as in pre-Hispanic times, achieving the red, yellow and orange colors from annatto seeds.
